SPRINGFIELD Lincoln Land Community College unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art solar array on campus, marking its commitment to sustainability and renewable energy innovation. The solar installation will be located behind the 蹤獲扦 Child Development Center, 5090 Shepherd Road, Springfield. It will be funded by an Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN) grant.
The solar array is the latest in a series of solar initiatives planned to reduce the colleges environmental footprint. In 2019, the college installed solar panels on the rooftop of 蹤獲扦-Jacksonville and on the south slopes of two buildings at 蹤獲扦-Litchfield. Those panels offset electrical costs at those two locations by 75% and 95%.
The Child Development Centers ground-mounted solar array will be installed in spring 2025 and is estimated to offset 96% of the buildings electrical cost and have a positive environmental impact, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
